I have a little bog garden in a container that is set into a larger tub of water. There's also a few plants in the water container along with a bunch of mosquito larva. How do I get rid of them?

Hi again! Put carnivorous plants in there! Sundews and butterworts LOVE mosquitoes. But you're at the larval stage and guppies love the larvae. They're easier to come by than the so-called Mosquito Fish.

If you'd like some sundews, I can supply you with a variety of bog type (that I keep outside in a mini-bog), for the cost of Prioity shipping ($4.05)

Also, I've read from a California hobbyist that spraying the non-stick spray kills the larvae. I'll have to research that thread.

Anyhoo, if you're interested in CP's for a bog, just shoot me an Email, following the My Page link.

Thanks. I have a few guppies outside in a plastic soda bottle from a science project one of my kids did. I think they'll be getting a new home! I'm afraid that spraying anything to kill the mosquitos will kill other stuff. I'll send you an email about the plants. Thanks again.

There is also a product, I believe the name is Mosquito Dunks (tm)that contains the bacterium Bacillus thuringii; this bacterium is death to insects, including mosquito larvae, but harmless to vertebrates and of course to plants. Home improvement stores usually carry it, as do many garden centers.

RE: mosquito larva

You are correct, the name is Mosquito Dunks.

They are harmless to birds, dragonflies, butterflies, bees, cats, dogs, kids....everything but larvea. They kill mosquito larvea in a few days.

Yup, get Mosquito dunks, they work!

Will the mosquito dunks also kill frog/toad eggs?

RE: mosquito larva

No, they won't.
