Bald cypress bonsai

When bald cypress is typed up in google alot of images show one, but it is a bonsai. I have got a few bald cypress seeds, and I was thinking it would be kind of neat if one or two could be one. ANYWAY! Does anyone know how to make a bald cypress (or anything else) into a bonsai and how to take care of it.

Thanks.

Hi
I have one that is going on 15 years old and I've maintained it at under 3 feet. I grow it in an 18 inched drip tray with packed long fiber shagnum. If you grow it in standing water it will develop "knees". I now have it in the shallow end of my pond.,kept right at waterline.
I find them a very satisfying "bonsai" Not only develops the famous "knees" but also buttress roots.
It does take a long time to develop and requires yearly root pruning.

that's awesome, but how do you prune it to that size?(the link below) Does it have to be a certain height? And how much pruning is needed?

Here is a link that might be useful: bonsai cypress

Check out the Bonsai forum too! there's a lot more info there than in the bog forums on this subject.

Hey DragonTrees,

Fred's right, go see the bonsai folks. The tree you've pictured was either a collected specimen or grown into a small tree and then topped. Trying to achieve a trunk that size from a seedling would take years. PF
