lotus tubers grocery store

Hi,
I was in an Asian grocery store and saw large lotus tubers that where in the vegetable section. They were wrap in plastic and in the cool area (not freezer) can these be propagated? Than

They have always rotted when I tried to grow them. they are however very tasty!

Apparently the tubers are very delicate.

you may have better chance of growing from seeds than those tubers, i tried and they just keep on rotten.
