will area around below ground kiddie pool bog remain damp?

colleauges:

it's been over a month since i installed my kiddie pool bog. the pool is around 4-6" below the soil surface.

the ground around the outline of the kiddie pool has remained damp, but since it's been so rainy in the ne this summer I'm unsure what will happen to that area next year of our normal seasonal drought hits in july and august.

will the buried kiddie pool keep the soil somewhat around it damp as well? i'd like to plant some joe pye weed but it couldn't handle the totally water logged soil in the kiddie pool itself.

thanks for your wisdom

Hard to say. If the soil around the edge is contiguous with the soil in the bog than it probably will. The plant roots will also find there way down to where the moisture is. Joe pye weed seems to do pretty well in moderately dry soil, as I have seen many pictures of it growing in people's gardens on these forums.
