Just got a Sweetflag and unknown

Hi,

I just got a Sweetflag (variegated Rush) and unknown plant at a 'Pond plant sale'. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to get them through the winter alive.

Here is a picture of the Sweetflag:

To the left of the Sweetflag is an unknown plant. Here is a better picture:

Any idea what it is?

Any suggestions for the winter?

I am also in zone 7 and I plant my sweet flag in the ground for the winter or put them in deep water in a pond. The second plant looks like a type of arrow plant. I have my arrows growing in my ponds and just put them in deep water to overwinter.

The mystery plant is Sagittaria -- arrowhead. A native. Also called "Indian potato" because the tubers are edible and were used as food by native peoples. It's hardy to zone 4 or maybe colder.
