Google the words grow lotus seed. It's easy to do. Scrape or nick the seed coat, drop it into warmish water that you change frequently, and plant in heavy soil when it starts to grow roots. I've had some problems with fungus, but I think it was water that was too cold. Oh, and if the seeds float when you drop them in water, they could be bad. It's a fun thing to do. Bob |

| I just ordered some american lotus seeds, they say to get a gallon jug, fill it with 4 inches of dirt and the rest water, then put the seed in the jug (put on a sunny windowsill) and it'll sprout. Not sure if you have to put it in the muck or not though. |

| I have American Lotus that I started from seed last year. The tubers have grown nicely. I went to a seminar in January about Lotus. be careful when repotting or moving lotus, if the new growth tip is damaged (and they can run for 15 feet) the plant may die. It is also strongly recommended that they be planted in round pots with no drainage holes. Why? if the growing tip gets stuck in a corner it will also die. As above nick the seed coat (I use a hacksaw) and put in the mud and they sprout in a matter of a few days. |
