Frozen water garden with frogs. Do I need to poke a hole?

I'm a 1st year water gardener and I'm excited to finish my garden next year. I've filled it with water (about 1500 gallons total) and haven't added any fish yet. I have seen numerous frogs, green and leopard when I filled it in August. My question is do I need to keep a hole in the surface to allow the frogs to survive?

hehe...wrong forum, you want the pond and aquatic plant forum

but anyways, everyone worries about the gas build up when your pond freezes over, but since its new, you have a lot less debris in the bottom breaking down to those noxious gases. i wouldn't worry about it this year, especially if you just have frogs

and..if you seen numerous frogs from just making creating a pond, sounds like your surrounding ecosystem can replace them

my pond was completely frozen over last year and had tons of muck in it, all my fish(19) and one frog survived. but this year its cleaner and I have the water pump outflow facing upward...huge hole in the ice

so just plan ahead for next year
