The Garden Trellis: Designs to Build and Vines to Cultivate
Written and Illustrated by Ferris Cook
Copyright 1996, publisher's price $15.95

This pretty little book (just 92 pages including sources and bibliography) is a great introduction to growing all the old favorite vines. The first half of the book profiles about 25 of them, and has very nice drawings of each. Part Two gives directions for building simple lath trellises, and includes drawings of nine designs along with their dimensions.(Their names alone make me wish for greater carpentering skills: Triptych; Box Kite; Pickets; Catwalk; Japanese Fan; Pagoda; Beacon; Sundial; and Double Diamond.) If you have a cottage garden, you need some of these trellises. A sourcelist for plants, seeds and ready-made trellises rounds off this book.
