Suggestions for best BASIC gardening book

| I want to give someone with absolutely no experience a very basic book on gardening. She's a little sensitive so the "Dummies" books are probably not appropriate. I know most of us who come to GardenWeb are a little beyond the stage of "the roots go down" but I need something almost that elementary. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Well, I'm a newbie myself and the first book I bought was Home Depot's Gardening 1-2-3. I have since obtained other books but still go back the 1-2-3 book because I just like the way it's laid out. Covers all the basics and is easy to read and look things up in. Also like The Garden Primer (Barbara Damrosch) which is a little more comprehensive and laid out sort of like a "What to Expect When You're Expecting" book. Great book, but I like the color illustrations and plant photos in the 1-2-3 book better. Angela |

| A Garden Primer is really good and covers all of the basics in a dignified way. |
