I bought this at a library used book sale and it's become one of my favorites. Wilder's account of boyhood summers (1914-17, roughly) on a rambling upstate New York farm. The vivid central character is his grandfather, a man of strong opinions about nearly everything, including cooking and gardening. A big advocate of using wild plants, which many neighbors chalked up to eccentricity.

Try to find it at your local library. It's a really great read.
