Looking for long plant that grows very quickly...

Does anyone know of a species that would be suitable for my research project? I am testing reponses to phototropism and geotropism in plant stems, and I need a plant that will grow long stems that aren't too fragile, in a short amount of time.

I used Brassica Rapa (Wisconsin Fast Plants), but I seemed to have no luck with them - many didn't germinate, and some that did had extremely weak stems. I don't know if this is just because I'm a lousy gardener, but I'd like to try a different species.

(Also, I'm growing these plants inside 35mm film canisters for my own reasons...so the plant would have to be able to survive well in there.)

Thanks in advance for the help!
