Sick tree

I think I may have over watered this tree. I had to trim half the tree because the stem turned black and wilted. Can someone confirm this for me? I also would like to know what species it is. It looks like a broad leafed fig. I have no idea but would like to keep it alive!

What are you asking us to confirm...that you over watered the plant? Since we weren't there, I don't know how we could confirm that. IF you could provide specific details, you might be able to get some feedback in the House Plants Forum.
