related species for grafting

I'm interested in grafting a Vanhoutte Spirea onto a tree in order to create a standard with a weeping form. Rosaceae is a very large plant family!
I know the line of grafting possibilities....
Clone, Species, Genus, Family and the closer to clone and species, the greater the possibility of a grafting match.

Does anyone have a suggestion of a suitable species for this venture?

You might get more responses on the propagation forum, if you'd like to ask there also. Sounds like fun, good luck!
