Serviceberry problems

Posted by lidebbie z7-LI,NY (My Page) on

Hi - maybe some one can help me please. I have 3 Running Serviceberry shrubs that I have had for 3 years. This year the berries are all deformed and I don't have a clue as to what is wrong.

We have had an extremely rainy & cool Spring if that helps at all. Here are 2 photos that I hope show the problem. Thank you so much for any help you can give. Debbie.

RE: Serviceberry problems

Your plants have Cedar-Apple Rust. This is a disease that effects foliage and fruit of members of the Rose family including Amelanchier. It also requires an alternate host such as any member of the genus Juniperus.
Cedar-Apple Rust can be a serious problem on Apples, Crabapples, Mountain Ash, Serviceberry, Roses, among others.
