| Just a quick word on herbariums for those just starting out .. perhaps those interested can add their links to thier own local herbarium or online herbarium sites ...
An herbarium is a collection of dried plants ... a plant morgue if you will ... it contains not only the plants but the collection data associated with each plant. Scientific publications on flora are based on the collections and associated data in various herbariums. Another way of looking at it ... if you place your own collections in a herbarium you are providing data for future works in Botany and becoming part of the botanical research for your area of the world.
The person in charge of the herbarium is the "Curator" and the best way to get in with the curator is to show up once in a while with a small collection of plants to donate to the herbarium ... in return I'm sure they would be glad to give you great help in identifying your own collections. I'd bet you would become a VIP around the herbarium in a very short while ... your own work could become vital to future botanical publications ....

| Hello Froggy ... I too am very fond of them too ... use to work very late nights in a herbarium ... so I felt like I was in kind of a "Morgue" .. rolling plants back and forth to my office LOL ... a library is certainly a better description. Any links you can add ?? Good Day .... |

| Any links to where I can find out how to gather/preserve, mount, label, etc? And the conditions necessary to hold such a collection as an individual rather than an organisation? Fridge? Silica gel? The wine cellar? (Just kidding!) What are the features most important to a future researcher - in addition to the plant material? Guidance, please. |
