 o
canker

I have a recently purchased dwarf gardenia that has a canker problem. I am curious, can the canker that infects a gardenia infect other species of plants or trees, or would it only spread to other gardenias?

Do you know if the canker is caused from a pathogen or nonbiotic source? Anita

RE: canker

I believe that gardenias are infected with the canker fungus Phomopsis gardeniae. This particular strain of the fungus will not affect other genera.

But Anita makes a good point. Canker-like lesions could be created by abiotic influences, as well.
