What is the chemical 5-deoxyingenol?

5-deoxyingenol is found in many plants such as Croton. I did not choose organic chemistry in college. I need some chemist to tell me what 5-deoxyingenol is. Does it cause cancer after repeated high doses?

Are you planning on eating large quantities of Croton on a regular basis?

Unless you are involved in synthetic organic chemistry, the question you posed is almost impossible to answer. May I suggest that you search the internet for INGENOL. The structure has a number of -OH groups on the largest ring. When on of these -OH groups is removed (the 5-position), the resultant product is the 5-deoxyingenol. It is quite toxic!

I believe it is the toxin found in various Euphorbiacae species latexes (and in other families too). causes eczema, blistering. Painful things but not anything that you should normaly worry about, as long as you don't eat it or bathe in it.
