It would probably do best if you planted it at the level it's currently planted at. If you plunk the root down into moist soil, now that it's adapted to being exposed, it could possible cause a rot situation. Seven years is a LONG time in between transplanting for a houseplant!

And, no, you can't ask me if I have houseplants that haven't been transplanted in that many years. (-;
