Gorillas and plants

Hi

Was watching a show on the subject where they were studying both lowland and mountain species. In the background there are always dozens of interesting looking plants which are never mentioned.

Two that always catch my eye are what appears to be "spanish moss" and another a terrestrial that appears to be some type of plumeria. Given the location obviously not lol. Is there a book or something that deals with the plants of those areas??

Particularly interested in high altitude epiphytes.

Wouldn't it be nice if in just one show was dedicated to the flora ??? They maddenly pass by dozens of fantastic looking plants without a word lol

Can find tons of info on Asian and Neotropic species but almost zilch on central africa. Thanks very much

I read somewhere that gorillas ingest 10 g/day of Vitamin C from plants and that is why we should ingest the same amount from pills.

On 60 Minutes TV show last Sunday, did you see those reed plants growing in the marshes of Iraq? I would like to try growing them in my garden. Does anyone know the botanical name?

"I read somewhere that gorillas ingest 10 g/day of Vitamin C from plants and that is why we should ingest the same amount from pills"

Remember a gorilla weighs about 4-5 times what a person weighs, so you'd want to reduce that 10g!

The reeds in Iraq might be Arundo donax - listed as an invasive alien in N America, so best not try growing it.

You must be thinking of bears! According to

    http://www.learnanimals.com/gorilla/

the average male gorilla weighs about 330 lbs.. I weight 200 lbs. 330/200 = 1.65. 10/1.65 = 6 g. vitamin C per day. But, I think whatever I read recommended human consumption of 10 g./day based on gorilla consumption, so whatever I read implied that the average male gorilla consumes closer to 16.5 g. per day. Of course, whatever I read might be in error.

    Arundo donax

    Thanks.
