Round sunburn spots on leaves

I have often wondered how does the sun get to burn a perfectly round or oval spot on some leaves of my neoregelias. A couple of days ago I was walking around in the garden with my camera and saw this funny looking whitish spot on a leave of one of my plants. On closer inspection I saw it was the sun reflecting in the pool of water in the centre of the plant. And look at the edges of the circle, much more pronounced. That came from the edges of the little pool where the water forms a miniscus (not sure about this term in English!) and then acts like a magnifying glass.
