Tammy,I was in hawaii in nov. 08 and bought two white pineapples.We ate both of them,when I trim them for eating I save the tops, brought them home to ca. potted them in super soil.There twice as lg.and rooted. no trouble with ag.people.

Be sure to clean the pineapple top thoroughly and remove any and all fruit residue. You can wrap the tops in newspaper and pack them in your bag. Be aware that California has strict import laws on plants.

The way to clean them easily Tammy is not to cut the top off,but to simply twist the top like it's screwed on,it will then seperate nice and neat.Remove some of the lower leaves(like pealing Artichoke leaves) and you will find a bit of stem and most likely small proto roots. Pot right up in cactus mix-That's it!

thanks everyone...i was told to look for the maui gold and a kona something that is supposed to be white fleshed...i hope my sister follows through...she can be flakey!!

i just bought some plants off ebay for like $2.5...a few are the kona sugarload and elite gold...

joe: great to hear that the sugarloaf is the same one in hawaii...i had that one also and it was soo good!!
