Ae. aculeatosepala . . . revisited

I know we've talked about this oddball before and never came up with any straight answers, mostly for lack of flowers. Well I don't have those exactly but if I was a betting man I'd say I might have the same plant shown in the Wally Berg photos on FCBS (link below).

These are straight from an orchid nursery in Ecuador (supposedly this plant's home turf) and were sold as "Neoregelia aculeato-sepala". They're a bit banged up I do see the similarities. Obviously stoloniferious, quite spiny, wider paddle shaped leaves . . . They are missing that red color but who knows what conditions they were grown in.

So what are your collective thoughts? I hope they at least survive long enough to flower. If this thing is a Aechmea it looks like some sort of missing link with Neos!
