Florel and Neo's

This is what I have learned about using Florel.

I use Florel in the cups only never in a spray. I clean the cups of all debris and algae. Mix it with fresh water for 1 plant at a time(mix based on plant size), leave it 24 hrs remove it and replace with fresh water. Florel deteriates rapidly in 3-5 hrs after mixing. The plants treated are placed in a shady spot while the florel is in them. Florel is affected by several things. Algae present, ph, and temperature. Ideal temps for using are between 70F and 80F. I tried spray applications but the mist always found a way to get on something I didn't target. It caused brown leaves or spots and deformed a few plants.

The shelf life of Florel is 10 years providing its never below 32F or exposed to 90F plus temps frequently and direct sunlight.

Hi HDD, have you ever tried with xeric type? I'm wondering if the 'Florel'
could induce Dyckia's blooming as in tank type. (^_*)"

The man that has Dakota mixes the Florel into water and flushes the plant soil. 24 hours later he flushes with water and only if plants are in full growing season...temps above 80F

    Good information HDD.

Did you have any success using florel on Puya? I seem to recall a topic about this some time back, & you said you may give it a try.

Would be interested in your results.

    Cheers, Andrew.

    FLOWER INDUCTION OF BROMELIADS
FLOREL brand ethephon Plant Growth Regulator initiates
flowering of ornamental bromeliads such as
    ANANAS, AECHMEA, NEOREGELIA, RIESIA and
    BILLBERGIA
AMOUNTS TO USE: For most bromeliad varieties, mix
8 fluid ounces of FLOREL brand Ethephon plant Growth
Regulator per gallon of water. This prepares a spray
concentration of approximately 2,500 ppm of ethephon.
Spray all surfaces of the plant to "wet ." Avoid
overspraying to "runoff" which may cause damage to
leaves or the growing points. For treating groups of
plants, use approximately 1/2 pint of spray solution per
10 square feet of greenhouse bench or outdoor bed area.
Apply FLOREL brand Ethephon Plant Growth Regulator
spray solutions within 4 hours after mixing. Mix up
only the amount of spray you plan to use immediately.
DO NOT save unused diluted spray solutions as they
will not be as effective as fresh solutions.
The degree of flower induction with a given rate of FLOREL
is influenced by the plant age, variety, growth rate, climate
and cultural conditions. Lower rates may effectively
force flowering or produce desirable foliage coloring
on certain varieties. Trial applications at lower rates
are suggested before making extensive treatments.

Some growers in South Carolina have been successful
in inducing flower initiation of several bromeliad
species by using 2-hydroxyethyl hydrazine at the
rate of 1.1 g per gal. of water. Thirty ml of this
solution is applied twice, at a two-week interval, into
the "cup" of each plant. Florel advertises the use of
its product to induce floral initiation of Ananas,
Aechmea, Billbergia, and Vriesea, pointing out that
although itÂs almost 100% effective regardless of the
application method, foliar sprays are more economical
    than crown treatments.
