Orthophytum gurkenii

I really am a plant-aholic. Despite being jobless in the midst of a recession, I just bought a six-inch pot of Orthophytum gurkenii. I know it's supposed to be a terrestrial, but that's about all. It looks like it would require the same conditions as a Cryptanthus. I'd like to plant it directly in the ground in my shady tropical garden here in Southern California. It would get little or no direct sun, maybe what you call "bright shade," and during summer I water the area about once a week, but not very heavily. Does this sound like good conditions for the O. gurkenii? Thanks.
