Landscaping with bromeliads and succulents

Here's a link to a garden I designed in Albany for a good friend, and used a fair amount of bromeliads throughout the garden, mixed in with other things to give a tropical look. I thought it looked a bit like it could be Venezuela, (my friend is originally from Caracas), but he said it looks nothing like any garden he'd ever seen back home. What do you think?

Here is a link that might be useful: Aechmea ornata v. nationalis and Billbergias
