I have a bromeliad that is about 5 years old. When i first got it it had a big, red cone like flower, which has since died. the plant is now dominated by one of the pups that has grown to the size of the mother. there is one other pup still on the plant. The base of the plant appears to be browning, I am not sure why or if htis is even a problem. is this a problem or is it normal? i am not sure tthe exact species of the plant. if there is any information i can give to help anyone answer the question, please ask.

RE: bromeliad help

Hi Sublimeandy,

The browning could be just the lower leaves aging and dying, which is quite normal. Removal of those old leaves might improve its appearance. If not, then you could have other problems. "A picture paints a thousand words" - any chance of a photo?
