Native Brom Hunting

It wasn't the Orinoco in Venezuela, but it was different. Our Brom society did the trip to Fakahatchee Strand deep in the Florida Everglades and we found plenty of native broms, orchids and ferns. I took a seven year old digital camera that was mostly disposable so the picture quality isn't all that great.

T. variabilis was everywhere.

Most of the trees were full of epiphytes.

A nice 7-8 foot gator sunning on the road after we exited. We didn't see any in the swamp.

Nothing beats looking at plants in their habitat even if they are mixed up with gators.

Thats brilliant ,here in Oz we have a couple of Orchids that like the " Ghost Orchid " are nothing until flowering time ,yes they are distantly related ,guess everything considered you are lucky there is some of the Everglades left to do this in , thanks for the quick tour

What a great field trip. How many people braved wading into the swamp? Good thing the big bugger was busy sunning up on the road!

There was 11 of us. I'm sure we made enough noise to scare away any gators.

havent been on much lately so a bit behind but thanks for sharing these pics. must be a real pleasure to see these plants thriving in their own homes - Im sure those gators are guarding quite a few un-identified species yet!
