T. complanata is an anomoly in that usually being monocarpic it will on the rare occasion throw pups.

Bryan, I got it from a tillandsia grower on the central coast NSW - grown from seed.
I have never seen it for sale since.

Sdandy - approx 30cm across.

Yes , have had it for years also but I don't get it to flower as well as yours, fantastic show, perhaps I need to fertilize mine occasionally to try & get up to your results.
The older the plant gets it starts to form a trunk, so keep your bottom leaves clean as they do pup on this trunk from time to time.
I think Mick Romanowski in Melbourne had seedlings for sale via the Victorian Brom. Soc.

I have been growing complanata for about 14 years and have grown several from seed. they do like organic fertilizer ever so often and pretty strong light as long as the temp. is cool. I have collected complanata twice in Ecuador one was in full sun and the other in full shade. Both were colored up beautifully when collected. I can only get good color when the weather is cool here in north Louisiana. If you are lucky enough to grow it for several more years you will have to watch out for the lower part of the caudex to wither and die. You will have to cut away the lower part and repot. I find tree fern is best to plant in.
