I was going to answer the first one as Vr.fosteriana var. seideliana as I had been looking at some of my plants that day, but thought, naa wont worry about it, but this one is a lot better, do I see a Vr. spike emerging there in the glare on the left, too hard to tell exactly which at this stage.

That's the petal of a N. cruenta flower, either that or I see the Virgin Mary in there. If that's the case then E-bay and $$$$!

Okay, now I see Nev's hands in the reflection!

Oh, the plant? It's looking less like N. cruenta now. Probably some oddball species like N. capixaba or binotii.

I think the inflorescence is too large - too many florrets - for capixaba, also it has a dark, red throat. The colour and the form of the spines match, though. Binotii on the other hand, should have had a nice dark reddish, brown colour under that white shade cloth, and also far too many little flowers.

I still reckon it is a cruenta. It looks an awful lot like my Neo cruenta Yellow. Small red finger nails. The spines match perfectly and the yellow colour in the leaves, is only brought out in direct, full sun.

A little more info:

It's growing beneath 50% GREEN shade cloth not WHITE.

It never gets any direct sun.

It doesn't have stolons like the pic. of binotii on the FCBS Photo Index.

It is about 30" in diameter.

Well, whatever it is, it's almost certainly got N. johannis in it, but the flowers are wrong for straight johannis. I think I've seen enough to have a pretty good idea what the plant looks like, so I doubt I'll know much more if I see the whole thing.

It's a plant I posted a while back searching for an ID and I thought maybe someone who hadn't seen the other post may be looking in and know its identity.

Oh well, at least it brought out some interesting discussion about plant identification, and it did pass the time away. However, I still don't know the identity of the b...dy plant!

All I can tell you is that it's a N. johannis hybrid, but not one I know, and it doesn't match anything I see on FCBS.

Red Gold seems fairly close, but maybe not close enough to call it. Mine does have a similar look, but it's somewhat smaller.
