    The inside cup of a Neo (?)

  • LisaCLV
    14 years ago

    Hehe...... yeah, I agree with Gonzer, but WHICH Neo?

    I really don't know, but I'm going to take a wild guess and say N. cruenta.

    Hi Guys

    I was going to answer the first one as Vr.fosteriana var. seideliana as I had been looking at some of my plants that day, but thought, naa wont worry about it, but this one is a lot better, do I see a Vr. spike emerging there in the glare on the left, too hard to tell exactly which at this stage.

    I would go with Lisa, Neo cruenta, or then a hybrid of it.

    Another in the Neo camp here. No idea which one, as several have blue flowers.

    Hi everyone,
    Here's the next one.

    All the best Nev.

    That's the petal of a N. cruenta flower, either that or I see the Virgin Mary in there. If that's the case then E-bay and $$$$!

  • LisaCLV
    14 years ago

    Yeah, but I already guessed N. cruenta, Gonz, and that must not be right or Nev would've said so. Right, Nev?????

    I'll wait for the next pic. ;-)

    *still waiting to see some foliage*

    That's a rather unusual reflection on the surface too. I'm trying to figure out what that is, it doesn't look like Nev with a camera. ;-)

  • kerry_t_australia
    14 years ago

    Ha! No it doesn't look like Nev with a camera - looks more like an upside down atomic bomb explosion!

    Bring on the foliage, Nev! - if you survived the bomb...

    Am I the only one who can see Jesus?

    Bring on some more foliage please Nev.

    Hi everyone,

    Here's a bit more....

    {{gwi:463281}}

    .... and some foliage to keep the impatient ones happy.

    {{gwi:463282}}

    All the best, Nev.

    Okay, now I see Nev's hands in the reflection!

    Oh, the plant? It's looking less like N. cruenta now. Probably some oddball species like N. capixaba or binotii.

  • avane_gw
    14 years ago

    I think the inflorescence is too large - too many florrets - for capixaba, also it has a dark, red throat. The colour and the form of the spines match, though. Binotii on the other hand, should have had a nice dark reddish, brown colour under that white shade cloth, and also far too many little flowers.

    I still reckon it is a cruenta. It looks an awful lot like my Neo cruenta Yellow. Small red finger nails. The spines match perfectly and the yellow colour in the leaves, is only brought out in direct, full sun.

    Hi all,
    A little more info:

    It's growing beneath 50% GREEN shade cloth not WHITE.

    It never gets any direct sun.

    It doesn't have stolons like the pic. of binotii on the FCBS Photo Index.

    It is about 30" in diameter.

    All the best, Nev.

    Hmmm....... I've run out of species so now I'm thinking hybrid. That's going to make it a lot more difficult!

    Noble Descent?

    Hi everyone,

    Leaf from part of the same plant without any overhead protection - taken in January.

    Hi everyone,

    Last chance, here's a bit more, and I'll answer today's queries tomorow.

    {{gwi:463286}}

    All the best, Nev.

    Well, whatever it is, it's almost certainly got N. johannis in it, but the flowers are wrong for straight johannis. I think I've seen enough to have a pretty good idea what the plant looks like, so I doubt I'll know much more if I see the whole thing.

    Hi everyone,

    First of all, to answer recent questions.

    From Rick on the 1st. .... Not Noble Descent

    From Lisa on the 2nd. "One of the many forms of Gee Whiz" ...... Don't know because I've only seen the one form.

    From Kerry on the 2nd. Red Macaw? ...... I don't know it so I can't say.

    From Kerry on the 2nd. How many syllables, Nev? ..... I can't say, because I don't know what it is either.

    It's a plant I posted a while back searching for an ID and I thought maybe someone who hadn't seen the other post may be looking in and know its identity.

    Oh well, at least it brought out some interesting discussion about plant identification, and it did pass the time away. However, I still don't know the identity of the b...dy plant!

    This is the whole plant growing beneath 50% green shade cloth .......

    {{gwi:450735}}

    ....... and this is another piece from the same plant growing with no overhead protection and taken just after our January heatwave weather.

    {{gwi:450733}}

    Thanks everyone for joining in my little puzzle, and all the best, Nev.

    Wait a minute, how the heck were we supposed to guess the answer if you don't know it either, Nev? As I recall, when I took a quiz in school the teacher usually had some idea who got it right! ;-p

    All I can tell you is that it's a N. johannis hybrid, but not one I know, and it doesn't match anything I see on FCBS.

  • rickta66

    Nev,

    The whole plant looks similar to my RedGold.

    Hi Lisa,
    Sorry, but I guess the short answer to your question is that I'm not a school teacher; and besides, I believe your words after the first puzzle were: "Hehehe.....try a harder one next time Nev".

    Besides, it was my one last chance to hopefully get an ID of this NOID, anyway it was a bit of fun.

    All the best, Nev.

    P.S. I promise the next puzzle I post I will know the answer.

  • LisaCLV
    14 years ago

    Umm......well yes, Nev, I did say that, didn't I? But by "harder" I didn't mean one with no answer! ;-)

    Red Gold seems fairly close, but maybe not close enough to call it. Mine does have a similar look, but it's somewhat smaller.
