Last year a pack of racoons decided to terrorize a couple of my bigger bromeliads, completely eating through the center tank. I was so busy with work in my desperation to save my remaining plants (they were going one by one for a couple of nights) I sprayed a bit of bug spray on 2-3 bromeliads that remained. They never came back. And all of my bromeliads with out exception put out more pups.

I hate using bugspray at all because it's so harmful but it was all my mother had and all I could think of using in such a short amount of time.

So my point is if extremely toxic bug spray didn't kill them or seemingly harm them since they are still alive with many pups then I wouldn't think something like cayenne pepper would. But what do I know?

My tortoises did the same to my bromeliads!!! And thanks to them, one of the bromeliads has got 4 offsprings~~~

Welcome to our forum. It's great to see more and more new members joining our discussions. I hope you enjoy your association with our group and learn lots about brom's like I have.

As for the cats, well I don't have that problem, as I have a best friend Clyde; an old, spoilt, well trained dog. He loves to accompany me each day when I do the rounds of the bromeliads. He loves kids but has an intense dislike for cats. They just don't come into the yard any more.
