Bringing bromeliads from Brazil into the US

Hi all,
I will be traveling to Brazil this summer and would love to buy some bromeliad plants there to bring home to the US. However, I don't know anything about rules and restrictions on bringing these plants in your baggage.
Do any of you guys have experience to share?
Thanks,
Juliana

Juliana - Your best course of action would be to contact the customs department in your state and ask them what restrictions apply to the importation of live plants from Brazil. You may even be able to look it up on the web.

I don't know what the import requirements are like in your country but I do know they are very strict here in Australia.

Having said that, we need to remember that these restrictions are there for a purpose, and that is to prevent the introduction of noxious plants, or worse still any insects or diseases they may be harbouring.

    All the best, Nev.

You can not bring plants from Brazil. Take a lot of pictures and enjoy your trip.
