Some sort of Aechmea, probably a fasciata hybrid, but beyond that........?

Hi Matt, this one looks very much like one of the spineless fasciata hybrids from tissue culture.
It is sold here in NSW as Aechmea Felicia.

Hi Matt, yes i agree with Lisa its a Ae.fasciata hybrid,there where a lot of those about a few years ago,mostly in Woolworth,and Bunnings stores, they where all labelled as Ae.fasciniia's i bought some of them but they where temperamental to grow unless in a warm house.they are suposedly a cross between 'Fasciata' and 'chantinnii' and that seem correct from where i stood .thats all i can tell you . Jack i think you've pinned the tail on the donkey here.
My dad did say something about purchasing them from Bunnings afew years ago so its highly likely they are the same plant.

Following up on what Jack said, I checked up the FCBS Photo Index and there are pic's of Ae Fascini from three different growers.

The plants do vary a bit, but they should give you a good idea of what they are like.

There have been many aechmeas sold with the patented label of Ae. 'Primera' in garden sections of large Aussie supermarkets. It is supposed to be a cultivar of Ae. fasciata. I have bought a few, and they all differed slightly. Some were spineless, some banded, some not, and the inflorescences differed between them - yet still all labeled as 'Primera'.
Yours could be one of those, Matt.
