Mine is just a pup only 4"across.

I think the ID is spot on...plant has many forms and doesnt like to be in lower elevations for the most part..it wont grow here

I had one flower stalk on mine this year that I was told to cut off to make the plant stronger.
Hopefully next year I will see the flower.
It flowers yearly without dying.

Tillandsia Complanata does indeed seem to be the plant. Thank you very much. It fell out of a huge strangler fig (ficus).
