I would be suspicious of both those names, Sid. I don't have 'Beta' but your plant looks nothing like the FCBS photo.

Ditto farinosa. I've seen a lot of different things tagged farinosa and I suspect most of them are wrong. For one thing, the name farinosa means "having a flour-like coating", i.e. slightly scurfy. You can see that clearly in Uncle Derek's FCBS photo. It is less clear in the Bromeliário Imperialis photo, but that's probably just because it's wet. I don't know how many forms or cultivars there are of farinosa, but if it doesn't have that trait, I'd be suspect. Also, your plant's rounded tips with red fingernails are not typical of the species. It looks more like some kind of spectabilis hybrid to me, but that's just a wild guess.

Thanks Lisa. I had my suspicions that they were illegitimate after comparing them to photos online. The right side plant does have a bit of scurfing that can be seen when its dry, but beside that and a general pink colouration it doesn't resemble the photos at all. And the 'Beta' doesn't match either... oh well they still look nice and should colour up more in summer. Thanks again for sharing your experience.
