If it had an inflorescence anyrthing like a T. cyanea, them it's definitely not a Neoregelia. If the foliage has no hint of spines, then you most likely picked up a Vriesea of some type. Did the flowering plant resemble this?...

Nothing as beautiful as the bract on that brom!

The plant had already finished blooming -- the bract was in its decline -- when I got it. I actually picked up two (again because I wanted the pots). Both plants look virtually identical. If memory serves correctly, the bract on one was dark purple, and pink on the other. The bract was similar in shape to the one in your pic, BA, though it was shorter and widened out more near the top.

No spines.

The plant by the way was and still is in a 3 inch pot. The pups are almost the size mom was and in the other pot (not shown) the largest pup is already as big as mom was.

Plants were greener but the green has lightened and the red blush has developed since I moved them out to my balcony for the summer.
