I grow mine on the drier side, I got my Hoh CA at a reasonable size/age and it still took a couple of years to bloom.

I was hoping to get some seed off mine which I didn't; next time I'll cut the flower spike off and let the plant put its energy into pup production.

I prefer the look of a hard grown plant .
They are much more compact , and no floppy foliage .
Full sun may help a plant to flower .
Can be difficult to find seed pods on the woolly flowers .
But I know someone who has many seedling plants,
that look very true to form . Some Hohenbergia species seem to set seed very easily ,. H. antillana will have seeds ready in a few months , and I have 2 lots of H. stellata .

I see full sun ok well I have plenty of pups from the mother plant. I love it and really hope it blooms.

While we are on this subject of seed on these. I was looking for seed a few weeks back on a Hoh CA. As you said aroideana "Can be difficult to find seed pods on the woolly flowers"
I have a question with these, do they have a fruit with seed in it like Aechmea spec. or is it a dry set up more like vriesia.

I'm not sure I can help much with what it likes, since I pretty much just ignore it and it grows. The plant certainly looks better when grown harder in strong light, but I've seen blooms in both sun and shade. The inflorescence is more interesting than really attractive, as it tends to be fairly floppy. I've never gotten any seed off it, though, or from stellata or rosea either. H. antillana, on the other hand, selfs like mad, and the berries turn bright blue (much like some Aechmeas, Brod).

lisaclv - beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder. When mine was in blooming I made it the center piece of my living room table - i thought it was beautiful :-)
