Billbergia progression of bloom

I've been watching the flower bud coming up the tube on this Billbergia since a month before the conference. I even brought it along to New Orleans for fear I'd miss the flowers if I left it at home. Not to worry. It took its good old time developing. Last Thursday morning, it was still at the top of the leaves. Then by evening, it had dropped 8-9 inches.

By Friday night, the flower buds were starting to show

Beautiful specimen, Paul. Too bad it didn't bloom for the WBC. I'm assuming you took it to display and not just sit in the room with you. ;-)

I entered it "For Display Only". The inflorescence could be seen developing slowly above the top of the leaves for the whole week. The plant was just taunting me! I had a couple of other Billbergias entered with inflorescences coming up the tube and they had open flowers by Sunday. You know how it is... each variety seems to develop at its own pace.
