YouTube channel for those interested in Tillys and Broms

Planta Brutt, at

http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsfR7qcxz2oZxJs38pJE8Cw

has burst on the YouTube scene talking bromiliads and tillandsias (though I have only watched the Tillandsia-focused ones)

The most recent video is about xerographicas, telling me some things I didn't know about them and showing one example almost in bloom.

The young man presenter sounds rather German but the "About" on their YouTube channel says:

"PlantaBrutt your specialist for Tillandsias and Bromeliads. Our Web Shop offers Europe's biggest selection of Tillandsias and Bromeliads from our Nursery
in Malaga/South of Spain. Our aim is to provide to all plant enthusiasts and professionals a wide assortment of plants with outstanding quality and service."

Thanks for the heads up. I liked the videos!

He does sound like a German but the contact name is definitely slavic though female I think, maybe his mother or wife? Not Spaniards at any rate.

He's speaking with a German accent and his post is in German. He could be either German or Swiss. Which doesn't preclude his living in Malaga.

The contact name is Czech first name and Spanish last name - jarka.carasecova. Most likely this person is, in fact, Spanish, eg raised in Spain. She may or may not have a Czech mother or grandmother. Sometimes people use a name originating outside their nominal nationality just because they like that name, or because they are naming a child after someone they admire.

If her first name is Czech then her last name almost certainly is too. Adding "-ova" in slavic languages makes a word feminine, so "Carasecova" is a female "Carasec."

Carasecova is a Spanish name as well. So perhaps there is just no telling. I'm not sure why nationality matters anyway?

HIs accent doesn't matter (unless folks have trouble understanding some accents). I found the young man and his accent to be charming and his information of great interest. I hope his company does more videos (preferably starring him ;) ). Every week or so I do a search on YouTube for new Tillandsia or Air Plant videos and have found some good ones.

Two more Tilly videos, on Bulbosa and Fasciculata, on

Ah, but Bulbosa doesn't care how it sits or hangs, it ignores gravity!

Here is my Bulbosa, named T. Kacey, according to the nursery in Torrance where I bought it. Photo taken January 20 of this year - the flower opened quite a bit later. A lot of my tillandsias hang, and I put most of them in my apple tree, which provides shade in the summer but not in winter or early spring, as it gets its leaves late. So far they are all doing okay, but I do mist them often. The apple tree still had quite a few leaves in January, however.

Very nice, Publickman! And inspiring! But most of my tillandisas spend the late Spring through the summer in my north-facing porch. The sun is bright at this altitude (around 5,000 feet here in the Rio Grande Valley). But they'll all be coming in to roost under grow lights or in a shaded, south-facing window as soon as the nights cool down consistently into the 50s (and the nights will get colder after that). We do get below freezing frequently, with wind and sometimes snow, too, so none of the plants would survive that.
