| For more than two weeks, I've kept an eye on my blooming Dyckia estevesii.
Eventually, the first bud showed the pollen above its closed-petals yesterday and then the 2nd today. I've tried to collect the pollen to cross with D. marnier-lapostollei which was blooming in the same time. I found that it's quite difficult to use D.estevesii as seed parent, as the petals are not open. May be I've to cut its petals off to reach the stigma inside. |

| That makes it difficult, Stephania. Often when flowers are that tight, the plant is a self-pollinator, but I don't know if this is the case with D. estevesii or not. You can still use it as a pollen parent, but it sounds like you'd better do the job yourself rather than hoping the ants will do it for you. Since we know that D. marnier-lapostollei does not self-pollinate, you don't have to be that careful about removing its anthers, just make sure you get some estevesii pollen in there. Good luck, I think this would be a very good cross! |

| I just love your D. estevesii. I'm on a waiting list for a pup. Maybe 3 to 4 more months I hope. I think you said that you got some from different people. Are there any differences? Tropiflora's price was to high for a pup. I think they wanted around 85.00. |
|
| Actually, I and a Thai spiny friend just got, each one, small pup from Michael, we paid 40 Bucks for this 3-4 in. size healthy pup. Well, I've not noticed the different yet, in fact, I think they would be the same clone as my previous group from Dutch Vandervort. Another clone that I ever seen its pic in cultivation outside US is in SSS Zurich, Swiss that my Czech friend showed me months ago. Here the pic, you see, the leaves look so different. |

| Hi stephania, That would be great. Thats where i am on the waiting list at is Michaels. I guess i was trying to get yours cause he said someone just got the last estevesii, but i am next in line. I just won 5 Dyckia and one Hech on Ebay last night. It was a pretty good deal to. It ended up being five dollars a plant and six dollars for shipping. Dyckia remotiflora var. montividensis, Dyckia niederleinii, Dyckia x Caberae, Dyckia x Red Devil, Dyckia goiana, Hechtia aff. podantha. So i will be posting more pics soon. I seen the adult plant of the Hechtia and the spines turn purple. That D. x caberae is all different colors. D. goiana is a very light lime color and it blushes peachy pastals in the sun. I think i ran across her site cause it had only all the plants she had on auction but they were bigger. |

| Hey,foxwicha, nice buy. I sure would like to see pics of D.niederleinii,D.xCaberae,and H.aff.podantha. I just posted two podantha pics on your other'spiny'posting. What was the closing date on your e-bay winning bids ? I could go back and look at the ebay photos of completed bids. Bird Rock Tropicals has a good selection of hechtia, and dyckia, but have very few pictures shown,so its a guess as to what you might get when ordering by name only.So the more photos we get to see here on GW,the better. Hope to see your photos soon. Bob |

| Stephania,what is that bronze/green spiny directly above/behind your D.estevesii ? Nice plant ! [but arn't they all!] Bob |
