This is the first year it has bloomed, I've had it over 3 years,it just got bigger and never bloomed,I was told it was a Aechmea (sp) that's all I know about it other than its easy to care for and likes bright shade and does well out side here in New England as a potted plant,I would like to know more about this plant.
Thanks for all your help

Hi Bear, It looks like Ae. Gamosepala to me and is the first brom I ever bought. It makes a great show every year in the garden and is virtually "bullet proof". I have it growing in the ground, on rocks and mounted on trees. It grows in the shade, in the sun or anywhere in between for me and still performs well, unfortunately it can get quite invasive in our climate if allowed to do so. All the best, Nev. |

Hi Splinter, thanks for the info, I look up the name you gave me and you hit it on the head,as of this morning I have 2 more buds, how long should the flowers last? Thanks for your help. Bear |

Bear, The flowers dont' last very long, but resist the temptation to cut the flower spike. The inflorescence will be rather unattractive for a while, but as the berries ripen, they develop nice color that lasts for a relatively long time. Paul |

| Hi Bear, I thought you may like to some pic's of Gamosepala some months after the flowers finished. As you can see, some have been pollinated by the Honey Eaters. The resulting seed capsules are black.
All the best, Nev. |
