Need Help with ID & fungus?

I have a large bromeliad that a friend planted in my yard. I don't know the scientific name of it, but he called it a 12 year bromeliad because it only blooms once every 12 years. I am trying to find out about the optimal location for me to relocate it. I believe that it is planted in an area that is too wet and that it has a fungus. Any help or feedback anyone could give would be really helpful. I really love this bromeliad and don't want to lose it. Thanks.

Photos need to be hosted on the web and links posted here for us to view.
A good FREE site to use is photobucket:
http://photobucket.com/

Create an account and upload your photos via your account.
Once the photos are uploaded you'll see them on your account page. Then simply place the mouse cursor over the photo and link options will appear. COPY and PASTE the HTML link and your photo will appear like this:
