Your photo looks pretty much like P.sanguinea to me,as I too have one in my collection. I'll post a pic below for comparison.

Well isn't that interesting. I've been following this thread through several forums and I would have bet the family homestead that it wasn't a brom at all.

Don't bet anything, Barb! I've got one that looks about the same as Bob's too. I've occasionally seen other red-leafed Pit/Peps, though, including a few hybrids, so I'm not going to swear that this couldn't be one of them.

How big is that? P. sanguinea is fairly small for a Pitcairnia.

I got a PitPep, Pit.pseudoundulata X Pep.sanguinea, from Terrie Bert last month. It looks just like the one posted here but much smaller.

lisaclv, the plant is in a 6-inch pot, and if planted out, the tips of the leaves would stand at about 12-14" tall.

My Pitcairnia lools pretty much the plant as the one shown in the first picture. Standing about 14-15inches tall. But it tends to rot easily from its center

That sounds about right, longwood. Here's my P. sanguinea-- I didn't have a ruler but that's a 6" pot too.

The one on the right is a hybrid (of what, I'm not sure, since the person who gave it to me had lost the tag). Although it is reddish, it's clearly not the one in the photo; I am including it merely as a size reference, since that seems to be a more typical size for a lot of Pits.

Regarding size,my Pit.san. is about the same as Lisa's with the exception of about 4 leaves that are about 24" tall,the remaining around 10"-16",and is in an 8"pot.
I'm adding 2 pics for size comparison with 2 vrieseas and ananus bracteatus,and a pic with a yard stick. This plant was purchased as a P.sanguinea,so I think thats what it is,even with a few taller leaves. Any other thoughts on a different ID?

Prettier than your average pitcairnia! All pitcairnias I've seen (admittedly not many) have the all-green leaves and you have to wait for the flower for any color.
