Recently I have noticed my air plant isn't doing very well. It's got the characteristic browning that comes with rot, but what am I supposed to do about it? Should I pluck off the rotted areas? Stop watering and let it dry out for a long time? Please help! I don't know what I should do to keep it from dying...

I mounted mine on a hanging wood and only mist with weak fertilizer. It tripled in size in 2 years and made it thru the Texas drought looking pretty good.I mist it when it gets the dusty green look.

I got a reply from someone who grows and sells them for a living. He said to cut off the rotting parts and dry the rest out, which I'm in the process of doing. I know general care stuff now, it's just I needed the emergency response information.

Rot equals wet, so drying it out would be the first step.

Yes this one is very sensitive to remaining wet, especially when cold, remove all affected parts, dry out completely and move to a location with very very good airflow.
