Hi Richard - That's quite a spectacular Aechmea, haven't seen it before. Is it reasonably easy to get hold of locally? What did you mean (due to cold) do you live in a cold area?

Thanks for the pic, all the best, Nev.

    Thanks Phil.

Hi Nev, It is not rare and has been listed on ebay a couple of times.
You should be able to pick it up (if not let me know).
It gets down to -5/-6 degrees C in winter here and it tends to knock the Aechmea around a lot.
Especially the Amazonican ones which I love. so I persevere with them.

    Cheers Richard

MAny of the old Streptocalyx spp. do suffer in the cold so I hear . They do get to a nice large size here in the tropics , and the first time I saw one in full flower I was astounded at the beauty of it . I am trying to get a few more . Ones like skotakii really sufer around Brisbane .
