I remove most of my old neo inflorescences. I grab hold with a big set of pliers and spin it around a turn or two and it comes right out. Some plants look a bit odd with that big hole in the middle, but they do smell better.

It's a matter of individual preference. The old inflorescence may stink, but it is not harmful to leave it there. An empty post-bloom cup looks odd to me, so I usually just leave it alone until it is so rotten it scoops out easily with my hand. If it is setting seed it may slow down the development of pups a little bit, but usually not much.

I usually get the big fertilizer hand going once the inflorescence stops flowering and that seems to push the pups out and makes up for the effort put into the inflorescence. Of course, once I harvest the seeds, I put most of them in "the dying room" so it doesn't much matter how they look or smell.

Thanks so much! I thought it might cause my broms to start rotting too if I dont do something about it. It kind of looks odd without the flower at the center though. So once the flower is out, it helps to fertilize heavily to help the plant produce the pups?

Some of the broms I have have not produced any pups at all after they flowered. Thanks again guys!

A headless N Valentine; it looks OK. I've already removed 2 pups and there is one more on, but I'd like a few more.
