bromilead pup

I received a gift that has an orchid and bromilead planted in the same pot. The orchid is blooming and I have a great bromilead pup growing from the parent plant that I have already cut the faded flower from. Can I cut back the entire parent plant and let the pup grow, since I don't want to disturb the orchid roots trying to remove the pup from the parent?

RE: bromilead pup

If the pup is a third of the mothers size you can remove it [You should be able to do this without disturbing the orchid. A sharp knife next to the stem of the mum] and pot it up into a different pot using the same sort of mixture it is growing in now. You will probably get more pups from the mother plant.
