aechmea dichlamydea flower petals

Ive been monitoring closely for several mornings a few blooms of dichlamydea var trinitensis. The flower has me a bit puzzled. I never see it open its petals. I see the dead flowers on occasion, but never open in the morning. Ive been checking on them from 7 AM to noon.

Is this plant similar to the recurvata that does not fully open and must pried open when it is receptive? Any input from anyone who has worked with this plant would be appreciated.
