Tillandsias that require zero care in summer-dry CA?

A friend has a Tillandsia growing outside in her cherry tree in Palo Alto, CA (photo at bottom). She says she gives it zero care during the year, and we get no rain from about May-September. She gets a fair amount of frost, especially during the last 3 colder than average winters. I think they had 3 mornings 25-27 F during the freeze this December. This is not a foggy area, although humidity does tend to climb during cool summer nights (almost always in the 50s).

I'm curious whether there are other Tillandsia species that can take such neglect. I'm partly curious because my sister is in a nearby area with somewhat milder winters (maybe 30 F this (cold) year). She kills every plant that I give her, so the idea of a zero maintenance plant is appealing.

Beyond that, I'm curious as to what people might recommend as particularly fun Tillandsias that might make it outside in a nearly frost-free Northern California climate, but with a little supplemental summer water.
