Flyspeck scale or black scale preventative treatment

Posted by elfgarden none (My Page) on

I have read that Merit granules are effective in preventing fly speck scale or black scale. Upon research, Merit seems to come in 2.5 gram strength or 0.5 gram strength. Can anyone tell me which strength Merit granules they use and how much should be applied in a 6" pot.

Thanks

I use the 2.5 exclusively on all my plants including Adiantum ferns. A tablespoon should suffice.

Two questions:

1. Are these houseplants or kept outside?
2. What does the label say?

The Bromeliads are kept outside in 6" pots. Label doesnt mention bromeliads at all but I know that Merit is used by many growers so I wanted to hear from someone who uses Merit granules on their broms. I only used 1/2 teasp scattered around each plant because I want to be cautious with my collection and not kill any but now I'm wondering if the 0.5 strength is strong enough to prevent flyscale. I have a feeling most brom growers are using the 2.5 strength as mentioned in the previous reply.
