Thanks Richard. That's a nice cross I have not seen before. I can see the combined characteristics of its parents.
It DOES look like a large pin cushion! I'd like to see another photo when it is in full flower.

That's a very nice plant. Look like a clump of small Aechmea. I think It looks easy to grow to those clump, doesn't it? More close up pics, please.

Hi Richard - Great plant! I have just plain Vr. flammea which is a plant about the same size as yours but alas, only ever has one or two spikes at the most. Am I doing something wrong or is this its normal habit?

Aah...be patient, dear Nev. You're not doing anything wrong. My photographed clump of Vriesea flammea took about five or six years to produce multiple spikes - see photos below.

Gonz - your Vriesea correia-araujoi should do the same thing over time, as should Vriesea poenulata.

Hi all, as Kez said Nev patients is a virtue.
My flammea took seven years put out multiple spikes and the grasshoppers ate it.

Hi Kez, 6 years to get to this size flammea x vagans.
Will post photo of it fully flowering if the B***** grassheppers leave it alone.
